About Green Route Eco Tours

Tour 01.jpg

Green Route, a society based in Shillong, Meghalaya and established in 2007 has been carrying out socially responsible tourism in a few states in the North Eastern part of India, focusing specifically on rural tourism and promoting the unique tribes and their lifestyles. Green Route started as a tour operator to rural locations but in the last few years we have been working with resident communities at our destinations on the areas of resource management, sanitation, the dangers of pollution to the environment and eco-systems and also made pathways towards preserving local traditions, conservation of eco-systems, lifestyles, culture and heritage through various community intervention programmes. We have helped and continue to help in developing, focusing and promoting controlled tourism other than mass and commercial tourism. Green Route has worked with Fox Traveller, Fox Life, Lonely Planet, Conde Nast Traveller Magazine and Discovery Channel towards the promotion of tourism, tradition, culture and lifestyle in the North East.

We have been working at Kharsati Nature Park in Meghalaya, in the preservation of Caves in Sohra, Meghalaya, in the preservation of wildlife, flora and fauna at Kaziranga and Pobitora wildlife reserves and in the Sangti Valley in Arunachal Pradesh. In the Sangti Valley we assisted in setting up village home stays and showcasing local activities for travelers with the cooperation of actress Kalki Koechlin and media company Endemol Shine. We have helped create unique experiences to visitors using local culture and traditions which include experiences like local food, weaving and embroidery, cheese making, local wine making and organic agriculture.

The Green Route Society was founded and headed by Ashley Erasmus Lyngdoh (Co-owner of Heritage Nook Homestay) along with the contribution of core members comprising of professionals such as, Mr. Deepak Erasmus(Agriculturist and Horticulturist), Mr. Phrangkupar Kharbamon (Tourism Product Management) and Mr. Sandeep Roy Choudhury (Climate Change and Sustainability).

We have also contributed for Skill and Capacity building of drivers and local tourism guides as a resource person for Avenues, Shillong, and training in Eco Tourism techniques at Sohra College for Jetwings.

We are happy to now include services like Bike Rentals, Travel Packages for the North East Region and provide accommodation at our very own Heritage Nook Homestay at Shillong, Meghalaya.
