Homestay

The ‘Heritage Nook Homestay’ was started in October 2019 and is run by our family residing there with the objective of catering to budget tourists, back packers, writers and photographers. This is a segment that has mostly been missed out in the tourism industry and yet fills the void of a major bulk of business to the industry. We as a family, have inculcated all the norms, resources and traditions of a typical ‘homestay experience’ practiced across India and the world.

We provide typically local experiences for our travellers like cozy, warm and homely rooms, hot homemade food using local ingredients, recipes and warm burning ‘ chulas’ in the outdoors for the cold winters. We also have our BBQ grill specials for the added flavour at an extra cost.

Our homestay also provides bikes and scooty rental services and arranges biking tours in the North East region.

The added flavour is the ambience in a typically quiet and peaceful residential locality tucked away by a garden on a hill in Kench’s Trace which is just a few minutes away from the town centre and major shopping and eating hubs. Local taxis are easily available from the area.

We have also introduced Long Term Stay as an option based on popular demand. We hope our guests takes full advantage of this service to avail the benefits of being connected to their work place whilst enjoying the best Meghalaya has to offer.

Our aim is to provide a quiet getaway for our travellers in the coming years with itineraries made and locally topped by ‘Green Route’, our society promoting off beat tourism, and partner stakeholders in the rural, cultural and traditional tourism scenario. The team has already successfully tied up with tour operators across the country and abroad.

About Shillong

 

Shillong is the capital of Meghalaya, one of the 7 North Eastern states of India. It is also known as “Scotland of the East”. Situated at an altitude of 1500 meters (4990 ft), the temperature typically ranges from 4° C in winters to 24° C in summers.

 

The local inhabitants of Shillong are primarily the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo people. Other than the Khasi language, English and Hindi is spoken to a large degree in Shillong.

While Shillong has an airport, it has limited operations and people typically fly into Guwahati (Assam) and then take a 2 ½ hour drive to Shillong.
